Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport
You will be picked up by your tour guide on your arrival at the airport and be driven to the East. The driver will drive through the beautiful plains, composed of dense green lands, broad-leafed woodland, lighter acacia woodland, and rolling grassland through the hills and valleys, also with an extensive series of lakes and wetlands linked by papyrus swamps forming a sprawling wetland, as you check-in Akagera Safari lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Akagera National Park Game drive
After an early morning breakfast, you will join your ranger in an open vehicle to start off your safari into the Akagera National Park. While at Akagera, you will have a game drive which gives you the opportunity to spot a variety of wild animals such as elephants, buffalos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Butchel’s zebra, topi, bush baby, leopard, and bushbuck. Return to the hotel for lunch.
After lunch, you will proceed for a boat trip on Lake Ihema, which is well known for habouring water animals like crockdails and hippos, coupled with the large concentration of bird life; over 525 species of different birds identified. Unique species such as Shoe billed stocks and papyrus gonolek can be seen in Akagera.
Return to your hotel for dinner and chat about today’s sightings!
Day 3: Akagera – Volcanoes National Park
After an early breakfast, return to Kigali and connect to Park National des Volcans (PNV) in the north for Mountain gorilla tracking. We shall be welcomed at mountain Gorilla’s Nest near Kinigi station – Park Headquarters for lunch.
In the afternoon, we shall take a walk through the nearby forests to nearby crater lakes on the volcanoes, bird viewing, and photography. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla’s Nest/Kinigi guest house.
Day 4: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park Rwanda
You will have an early morning breakfast at 7:ooam local time and then transfer to Kiningi where you will be briefed by park ranger on how to carry out gorilla tracking. Hiking on the slippery and muddy Volcanoes slopes with nettles during the wet season is quite challenging. But the exciting encounter with mountain gorillas erase all the bad memories! You will be privilledged to stay with these close relatives of man (mountain Gorillas) for at least an hour for observation and photography.
In the evening you will the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. Return to your lodge for dinner and chill at the fireplace.
Day 5: Final Day of the Safari
Have breakfast early in the morning,go on a half-day hike to Mt Bisoke, the hike is rewarded with the sight of a beautiful crater lake, take photos and later connect to Kigali International Airport for your flight back home.
