Overview

Queen Elizabeth National Park`s diverse ecosystems include savanna, forests, lakes, and wetlands. This gives it the widest selection of birds in East Africa hence its immense popularity. East and Central African bird species have been recorded including migratory birds seen between November to April.

Day 1: Arrival

Arrive at Entebbe International Airport where you will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel of choice. Depending on your arrival time, birding Entebbe may be possible. The Uganda Wildlife Education center (UWEC) formerly known as the Zoo and The Botanical gardens offers great optional birding opportunities. Return for Dinner and Overnight.

DAY 2: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

We transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. We have a short stop at the Equator for an informative talk, photography, and the equator experience. Continue up to the Park, check in to your accommodation of choice for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: Birding Mweya Peninsular & Kazinga Channel

After breakfast, we bird the Mweya Peninsular in search of the swamp flycatcher, slender-billed weaver, yellow-backed weaver, black-headed gonolek, black bee-eater, malachite kingfisher, Verreaux`s eagle owl. In the afternoon we take a boat to the Kazinga channel. You will have exposure to the African Skimmer, White-winged Terns, Grey-capped Warbler, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Collared Pratincole, African Jacana, Pin-tailed Whydah, Martial Eagle, Gabon and Slender-tailed Nightjars, Great and Long-tailed Cormorants, Common Squacco Heron, African Skimmer, African Fish Eagle, Sedge Warbler, White-winged Warbler, Papyrus Gonolek, Papyrus Canary, Great White, and Pink-backed Pelicans, African Mourning Dove, African Open-billed Stork, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Yellow-billed, and Marabou Stork, Egyptian Goose, several Gull species, just to mention but a few.

DAY 4: Birding Kasenyi Tracks & Katwe

Today, bird the Kasenyi trail and the craters for hundreds of Savannah species, we search for the Common Rock Thrush, Pied Wheatear, Whinchat, Common Redstart, White-fronted Black Chat, Sooty Chat, Isabelline Wheatear, Common Bulbul, Cameroon Sombre Greenbul, Green Wood Hoopoe, a numseveralards, Barbets, Rollers, Harriers, Vultures, Eagles, Bee-eaters, Warblers, and so forth. Proceed to the Katwe area, looking out for birds like little Grebe; African Finfoot; Greater and Lesser Flamingos; Augur Buzzard; Crested Guineafowl; Pied Avocet; Black-winged Stilt; Diederick Cuckoo; Yellowbill; Narina Trogon; Shining-blue Kingfisher; Grey-capped Warbler; Grey and Buff-throated Apalis; Brown-throated Wattle-eye; African Paradise Flycatcher; Olive-bellied, Green, Olive, Variable and Collared Sunbirds; Starlings; Weavers; Widowbirds; Bishops; Finches; and Waxbills among others.

DAY 5: Birding Kyambura Gorge & Ishasha Sector

Today you will begin your 5th day of the Rwanda bird watching tour with an adventurous golden monkey tracking acctivity in the Volcanoes National Park still. After 3-4 hours of the photographic adventure,  Return to lodge for lunch and set out to visit Dian Fossey’ Grave. You will hike at Karisoke research center and explore further the life of Dian Fossey, learn about her effort to conserve these beautiful creatures and the legacy she left behind. Return to lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: F/B

DAY 6: Departure

After breakfast, proceed back to Kampala or Entebbe, birding en-route and arriving in the late afternoon. Look out for birds like the Nubian Woodpecker, Bateleur, Crested Francolin, Blue-spotted Wood Dove, Brown Parrot, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Lilac-breasted Roller, Broad-billed Roller, Striped Kingfisher, Blue-napped Mousebird, African Grey Hornbill, Spot-flanked Barbet, Fork-tailed Drongo, Cisiticolas, Weavers, Widowbirds, Finches, and Waxbills among others.
